From the Cross Point Emmaus Spiritual DirectorRev. Tony Caro
How is your spiritual temperature on this HOT Summer Day? Since you dont have a thermometer to measure such a thing maybe a quiz on Christian Spiritual Disciplines would help.

God wants our hearts. Hows your Piety?

  • Prayer Life
  • Times of Worship
  • Times of Holy Communion
  • Spiritual Retreat - a note on vacations: sometimes we receive a blessing from God when we step away from our usual routines and get a look at what we have been doing. Vacations can be a time of re-creation. When you come back from vacation try to do one or two things different (i.e. a two-minute devotion before you start work or a Noon time prayer for someone you know is hurting). While on vacation you may have opportunity to worship in a different setting and share Communion with a different group of brothers and sisters in Christ. You could even call to see if there is an Emmaus Gathering in your area.
  • Camps either attending or serving

God wants our minds. Hows your study?

  • Bible Study
  • Christian magazines
  • Christian Books
  • Take a class – This Summer I am going to a Christian Conference with sessions from 8-12 and have family time in the afternoon.

God wants our Lives. Hows your Christian Action?
Pray for God’s help as you are in different situations this Summer with;

  • Family
  • Friends
  • Work Folks
  • Community

Have a great Summer and look for ways God wants to use you to bless others.

FOURTH DAY LETTERSheila Altom
“For this reason, I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man; so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory. . .”
Ephesians 3:14-21

While preparing to serve as Lay Director for Walk #30, I prayed these words from Ephesians over and over for the team and the pilgrims who would attend. You see in these verses Paul's concern for “the whole building” in Ephesians 2:21, “every family” and “all of the saints” in Chapter 3 -- and so, with love for this entire Emmaus Community, here are some reminders for our Fourth Day. First, you will notice Paul's posture as he prays “I bow my Knees” -- I've just read a wonderful book, Humility, by Andrew Murray, and he talks about our duty to humble ourselves. Philippians 2:8 says “He humbled himself and became obedient unto death.” Also Murray says, “. . . sink down into your own nothingness in the spirit of meek, patient, and trustful surrender to God. Accept every humiliation. Look upon every person who tries or annoys you as a means of grace to humble you. Use every opportunity of humbling yourself before others as a help to live humbly before God.”

Paul prays for the “inner man” -- that spiritual part of man where we can continue to grow -- and about being “rooted and grounded in love.” I believe we can never be rooted and grounded in that kind of love without being rooted and grounded in the Word of God. I pray that we are all continuing in the Word of God, letting the Spirit of God take us into all truth. It is only when we let the Holy Spirit show us who we are in the light of His Word, that we can see ourselves as God sees us, and apply the Word to our everyday life. When we “comprehend” we lay hold of the truth and make it our own. One of my favorite commentaries says, “if you don't go deep, you can't go high.”

One of the great assurances of the above Scripture, is the abundance and the power that works within us. Space does not permit me to elaborate about my experience the past four years as I cared for my Mother in my home, which many times isolated me from all the “spiritual growth” avenues I had enjoyed before. When isolated from the body of Christ, Satan loves to attack. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He answered each temptation with “it is written.” I can only testify to the importance of being rooted and grounded in the Word, in abiding with Him every minute of every day, and humbly coming before Him early and knowing that He will equip you to do what He asks you to do. When doubts would come, I would affirm, “Lord, I believe You are Who You say You are -- I believe You will do what You say You will do.” He is faithful.

I thank God that there are some wonderful Church services on TV and for about three years, that was my worship and Church experience. Adrian Rogers is preaching a series called “Taking Authority.” He says that the reason Satan is getting hold of so many of our youth from Christian families, is that we are not living in the power of the Holy Spirit -- that resurrection power. One of his statements that really caught my attention is that a number of years ago, Christians replaced the word “surrender” with the word “commitment” -- when I commit, it is what I can do --when I surrender, it is what God does through me. Let's take the posture of Paul, and bow in surrender. We will see that abundance and we will bring Him honor and glory.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR THE CROSS POINT EMMAUS WALKS!
One reason we are faithful to our reunion groups is because someone else may need us to be there.
The same holds true for gatherings!
We miss your smiling face and long to worship with you!
COME! NOW IS THE TIME TO WORSHIP!

Cast aside your weighty cares
Let your burdensome distractions wait,
Free yourself awhile for God
And rest a while in him.
