PRAYERFULLY BE CONSIDERING WHO GOD WOULD HAVE YOU
SPONSOR FOR THE WALK TO EMMAUS

SUGGESTIONS FOR SPONSORS FROM THE BOARD

Here are a few suggestions for recruitment that should increase your effectiveness, help you properly interpret Emmaus, and effectuate your responsibility in sharing God’s grace as a sponsor.

First, when you are talking to a married person, we suggest you talk with both husband and wife. We require both husband and wife to make the decision together. Their applications should be turned in together. In the event, a spouse is not willing to attend, it is a requirement that the committed spouse wait one set of walks to attend and continue to pray for the uncommitted spouse

Secondly, to assure the applicant you are personally interested in their attending, make plans to bring them to the Emmaus site for Send-Off. Your bringing them, helping them with suitcases and registration, and sharing in the Send-Off is a form of prayer and sacrifice.

Thirdly, during the weekend, you and your family become a substitute for the candidate. Be available and leave your phone number with their spouse. Consider doing something special for them during the weekend like giving them a few hours out during the day for personal time. Share a meal with them. Let the candidate’s spouse know that you love and care for them

Lastly, you have responsibilities to the candidate. Pray for him or her during the weekend. Write him or her letters for prayers and sacrifice. In addition, support your candidate with your presence at Candlelight (Saturday, 8:00 p.m.) and Closing (Sunday, 4:00 p.m.).

Remember, the Walk to Emmaus is not for everyone. These three days cannot rectify every problem marriage, enthuse every disenchanted church member, or make saints of sinners. The Walk to Emmaus is designed to change environments through Christian Leaders. Candidates should know where the ladder is, if they are not already climbing it.

Handbook on EmmausUpper Room
Each person who attends The Walk to Emmaus has a sponsor. A sponsor is a person who has been through an Emmaus experience and is willing to share that experience with another new Emmaus participant. The sponsorship of a previous participant frees the current participant from any personal responsibilities that might distract him or her while on the experience. Sponsorship also undergirds each participants 72-hour experience with prayer and other expressions of Gods love. According to the dictionary, a sponsor is one who takes responsibility for another. The suffix "-ship" refers to the skill involved in the activity. So sponsorship is the skill of taking responsibility for another. The aim of the sponsor is to bring spiritual revitalization to Christians who will, in turn, bring new life and vision to the work of the church in the congregation, home, workplace, and community. The aim of sponsorship is to build up the body of Christ

CHANGES ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Both Barbara Otto and Pete Maples recently resigned from the Cross Point Board of Directors. Barbara has served the community in many ways and her expertise and willingness to serve will be greatly missed on the board. She has recently spent an innumerable number of hours and lots of sweat attempting to reconstruct our mailing list for the newsletter and the entire community membership list. Pete likewise has served this community in more ways than can easily be listed including acting as Lay Director of the Spring 2005 Men’s Walk. Both of them will be missed on the board but they will continue to serve the community in other ways.
The Board welcomes Amy Wallis as a new member to fill one vacancy. Amy will handle Snack Agape, Mark Marion will be “in the Kitchen” and Steve Swigert doing double duty with Letter Agape and Assistant Lay Director responsibilities.

Dear Cross Point Emmaus Community,

I want to thank you for the opportunity to serve on the Cross Point Emmaus Board for the last two and a half years. It has been an honor and a blessing. Due to my new position as principal at Ryan Public Schools, I will not be able to continue in my capacity on the board. So with regrets I resign my position on the Cross Point Emmaus Board effective July 10, 2005.

God bless,
Pete Maples

FOURTH DAY LETTERCharley Roberts
I had heard it many times before. I had sung it for as long as I can remember. Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so… I just hadn’t accepted it since adulthood until I listened to the talk named Prevenient Grace. To hear and believe that God loved me like a “Daddy”, pursued me like a hound from heaven and was trying to woo me into a relationship changed my life forever. Since Walk #15 I have heard the talk Prevenient Grace many times and it still brings tears of joy. I continue to be amazed at the grace God offers and I am truly thankful it is freely given. My prayer is that through Him and with His help, I become a son he can easily recognize by my life. De Colores!

Cross Point Walk to Emmaus #15

We love you, O God;
And we desire to love You more and more.
Grant us that we may love You as much as we desire,
and as much as we ought.
St. Anselm

† PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR THE CROSS POINT EMMAUS WALKS!

Ah, dearest Jesus, holy child, make Thee a bed,
soft, undefiled, within my heart,
that it may be a quiet chamber kept for thee.
