Commissioning for Walks #61 & #62Dan Patman
I remember when I was on Cross Point Emmaus Walk #1. I was asked at Closing "What did this Walk mean to you and what are you going to do about it?" I knew that I had had a great 72 hours and saw the potential that the Walk could have among friends, family members, and parishioners for great evangelistic inroads, healing touches, and mighty reconciliations. I remember sponsoring 11 pilgrims my first time as a sponsor. I remember the difference the Walks made in their lives.

Since that time well over 300 persons from my congregation alone have gone on the Walks. So many others from southern Oklahoma have also gone on their Walk to Emmaus, persons from virtually every Christian denomination. It has been wonderful to get to know just some of these people.

I was selected to be the community spiritual director back in November of 2005. In the meantime, I have attended board meetings and gatherings. I miss seeing so many of the people that I have gotten to know over the years and don't see any more at community gatherings.

I am convinced that Emmaus still has a mission in southern Oklahoma! Aren't you? I want you to be part of that mission. You can still make an impact on the lives of so many.

Our next gathering will also be a commissioning of our teams for Emmaus Walks #61 & #62. It will be at the Ardmore First UMC on Saturday, March 4 at 7:00 p.m. Child care will be available. It's a great time to see folks you have gotten to know in the community, as well as support the teams on the next Walks.

I hope to see you there! You can pray in another great set of Walks.

Dan Patman, Cross Point Emmaus Spiritual Director

TABLE AGAPE NEEDED!Laura Mitchell
Do you remember how much love you felt during your walk when you received the table agape. Each meal there was more. There can’t be an abundance for the Spring walks if we don’t all do our share. Please get your Reunion group busy and help us overwhelm the pilgrims!
Thanks, Laura Mitchell, Table Agape
Please continue to pray for our pilgrims and teams...

Has This Happened to You?Cherri Bradley
You feel a sudden urge to bake? You stumble across a recipe you haven’t seen in years. You find yourself lingering in the snack isle at the grocery store. Don’t worry because it’s not the Devil trying to tempt you off your diet! It’s the Lord calling you to provide snack agape! Here is an opportunity for every member of the Emmaus community to get involved in the up coming walks. There’s something for everyone! We need cookies, quick/fruit bread, chips, pretzels, cheese balls, dip, fruit dip, cheese, popped popcorn, fruit, vegetables, wrapped candy, trail mix, snack crackers and liters of pop. Your help is needed! There will be a sign up list at the gathering March 4th or you can call Cherri Bradley at 223-7235 or e-mail me at littlec@cableone.net to volunteer. If you don’t have a way to get it there you can drop it off at Sally Beauty Supply by the Wed. before each walk or call me. If you don’t think the little you feel led to give would make a difference, just read what Jesus did with 5 loaves and two fish in Matt. 14:13-20!
Thanks, Cherri Bradley, Snack Agape

BOARD POSITION ON CHILDCARE AT CROSS POINT CAMP:
The Board regrets to inform the community that we can no longer be responsible for providing childcare at Emmaus functions at Cross Point Camp. (THIS ONLY APPLIES TO CROSS POINT CAMP AT THIS TIME.)That means Send Off, Candlelight and Closing. We understand the problems this causes many parents with young children, but we must ask you to leave your children at home during these times.
There are many reasons for this. The environment is unsafe for infants and toddlers as there are no adequate facilities to care for them. We are unable to abide by Safe Sanctuary Policies as required by the United Methodist Church (which Cross Point is a part of). We have asked for volunteers to staff this childcare – and they have not volunteered. The Model of Emmaus stresses that these events are not suitable for young children. They do not understand the high emotional content of the events; why they must be quiet; the events are often very long and tiring, held long distances from home and often late at night.
Our suggestions are in line with the model. You, as a sponsor, should be willing to stay home and keep your pilgrim’s children if necessary so the husband, for instance, can attend his wife’s closing. Couples also need time to talk with each other before having to greet children they haven’t seen for three days. Reunion groups can take turns caring for each other’s children in a rotation basis. You can get together with other parents from your church and leave your children at your own church’s childcare facility. You can hire a babysitter, just like you would to go see a movie or attend any other function you might attend without your children.
The Board will address childcare at Gatherings at a later date. Please check with the facility each time before expecting to have childcare available, as it varies by site.
To the Cross Point Emmaus Community:Tim Shields
Not long after I became aware that I was to be the next Lay Director, God put the following scripture in my daily reading.

“Oh, what a wonderful God we have! How great are his riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand His decisions and His methods! For who can know what the Lord is thinking? Who knows enough to be His counselor? And who could ever give him so much that He would have to pay it back? For everything comes from Him; everything exists by His power and is intended for His glory. To Him be glory evermore. Amen.” Romans 11:33-36

It really spoke to me as thoughts of “I hope I can do this” began to creep in my mind. It helped me understand that taking the “I” out of the whole process, would truly make it “intended for His glory.” It reminded me of the hundreds of people who have served at Cross Point for one reason. So that each pilgrim may see God’s grace, glory and love.

Paula and I have met several times and will continue to meet so that we may support and help one another. But primarily we meet to hold each other accountable to let God make “His decisions” and use “His methods” through us.

We covet your prayers not only for us, but for the team and the pilgrims and truly for the entire Emmaus community. For these walks are not presented by a few at the camp for three days, but by a community of over 1500 that hunger for others to feel the embrace of our Lord and Savior. We also covet your prayers that God’s glory will be magnified through all that is done at each set of Walks.

In His Name, Tim Shields Lay Director Men’s Walk #61
