| FROM YOUR COMMUNITY SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR | Dan Patman |
I was reading a chapter in my small group study book last night and these words captivated me: "God never wastes a hurt!" Wow! That has certainly been true in my life. How about in yours?
I've been through at least a couple of team trainings this summer. Over and over again, no matter who's giving the talk for critique, the message is "I hurt somebody" or "Somebody hurt me and God has used it for good."
The Scripture says, "Let us give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the merciful Father, the God from whom all help comes! He helps us in all our troubles, so that we are able to help those who have all kinds of troubles, using the same help that we ourselves have received from God" (2 Corinthians 1-3)
I'm amazed how a genuine and honest sharing of our hurts and sharing how God has relieved, healed, and forgiven those hurts causes nominal Christian persons to take the faith for real. An honest rendering of "This is how it was for me..." or "This is what happened to me..." or "This is how I gained the strength..." Those are words that give hope to persons struggling with life's difficulties.
There are many who are serving on the next set of Walks and many who will go as pilgrims. Every one of them will come to understand and appreciate the fact that God never wastes a hurt. They will hear about hurts inflicted, hurts incurred, and hurts healed. And they will realize that Christ is in the midst of His broken Body, the Church.
Isn't that the substance of what Dying Moments is all about! Seeing Jesus broken for you and for me! Indeed it was in the town of Emmaus with Cleopas and his friend that Jesus broke the bread and they SAW. The hurt of Jesus being torn away from them by soldiers, politicians, and an angry mob was healed. He was alive!
Let's pray now for the next set of Walks. Let's pray that men and women may see Jesus alive and their hurts healed.
De Colores,
Dan Patman

Remember the feeling of seeing all the names of people you knew, and all the ones you didn't know? Don't forget to sign the prayer vigil online. The prayer vigils will also be available at the next 2 gatherings.
Mark and Janice could still use your help on the upcoming walks. Volunteer sheets are still available online. You can always call me and I'll fill one out for you over the phone. You will be blessed by serving! Thanks, Vicki 580-504-1915. |

| VOLUNTEER FOR SNACKS…PLEASE! | |
Wow, can you believe it is almost time for another walk! It still amazes me that God can take so many people and allow each of us to be blessed with serving as part of the Walk to Emmaus experience. I’m still overwhelmed by the people who made it possible for me to see and feel Gods love and grace on my walk. I’m Cherri Bradley and I’m your broad representative for snack agape. Although the list of needs is great, I don’t see it as an obstacle, but rather an opportunity for God to allow more of the Body of Christ to be involved in helping on the walk. Providing snacks allows even those who don’t have a lot of time, money, or even skill to be involved—isn’t it just like God to give everyone a chance to serve?
The list of needs will be at the next gathering so you can sign up. You can call me at 580-223-7235 or you can just bring or send something to the walk. If you didn’t sign up we can always use more baked goods and liters of pop (we use 50-60 liters per walk). You can also give money and someone will use it to pick up what is still needed at the walk. You can drop snacks and liters of pop off at Sally Beauty Supply, 1111 W. Broadway, Ardmore (next to Blockbuster Video) anytime before the walk or call me and I’ll find a way to get it there. See--you can bake, shop, or give--you can bring, send, or have picked up. So there is room for everyone to serve!
Please contact Cherri Bradley, Board Rep. for Snack Agape, at 223-7235 or by email at littlec@cableone.net. Thank you and De Colores! |
