From our Community Spiritual DirectorDan Patman
One of the talks on the Emmaus Weekend is “Growth Through Study.” I’ve known men and women who have done a really good job of giving that talk. And, invariably, the one who gives that talk is a living example of “Growth Through Study.”

Nevertheless, it has usually been a laborious talk for me to hear. As our Community Lay Director Vicki Swigert reminded me, it’s the first talk on Saturday morning. And that’s the one that is given immediately before I, as the weekend spiritual director, give the “Means of Grace” talk on many weekends. So, I realize that my mind is “looking ahead” and “thinking ahead,” no matter how much I may try to relish what God is doing in the now.

I’ve asked myself, “How much does my growth in Christ come through study of God’s Word?”

And, I have to confess that much of my growth does indeed come through study. Especially, study that is done in the context of a small group!

For example, my Celebrate Recovery step study is a series of four books that I read through, fill in the blanks, study the corresponding scriptures, and share in the context and confidentiality of weekly meetings. I have seen real growth occur in my life as a direct result. It has been the means of seeing sanctifying grace flow into my life almost effortlessly. At least without any forceful steps or tactics on my part! It has been a God thing.

More recently, I’ve tried to think how my devotional life has been stirred. How has my life in Christ been spurred? It’s easy to think how my Reunion Group has helped me or how my Celebrate Recovery group keeps my feet to the fire. But beyond the fellowship and study within a small group has been my commitment to study.

I seem to find myself reading a book “all the time.” And, I’ve never really been a reader earlier in my life. But, in one of my Reunion Groups, a fellow pastor was always reading two or three books a week. I felt convicted and began reading as a discipline, sometimes for study and learning, at other times for inspiration, and at times just for personal growth.

What are you reading right now? Why are you reading it? And what do you hope to gain from it? If you are not reading God’s Word and some other book, I encourage you to do so. It’s one of the things that will spur your spiritual growth. It may also touch your heart!

Dan Patman

Walk to Emmaus SponsorshipJulie Altom
Is someone on your heart to sponsor on the upcoming Walks? Have you been praying for this person? Is God truly leading you in the sponsorship? If the answer is yes to each of these questions, you need to begin having discussions and praying with him/her. The purpose of the Walk to Emmaus is to build leadership within the local church; therefore, it is imperative that the pilgrim be involved in their local church.

Applications are due no later than Thursday, April 9th

To complete the application, I will need the following items:
  • pilgrim application
  • sponsor application
  • $35 deposit
All forms are available on the website (www.crosspointemmaus.org)

If the sponsorship is for a couple, each spouse must be willing to attend the Walk.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding sponsorship at 580-223-8260.

Table AgapeKarin Nuner
Now is the time to start on your Table Agape. The walks will be here soon and we want to bless the pilgrims with lots of Table Agape.

Remember how much fun it was to sit at the table and see all the goodies? Lets give that feeling to others! What was your favorite? The nose pencil sharpener that said "Pick Jesus". . . the hats . . . a bookmark. . .pens . . . or a nail cross necklace? Remember how the gifts steadily increase at each meal? Let's overwhelm our pilgrims with many loving gifts of Table Agape again! Reunion groups remember that your local craft store or an online "trading" store has tons to offer. Be sure you have at least 65 pieces per walk. That is 130 total.

And thanks again to each one for your dedication and gifts in the past.

Snack AgapeKelly Shannon
It is time to begin preparing for the snacks at the upcoming walks! My name is Kelly Shannon and I am the board rep for Snack Agape. I will be bringing the Snack Agape sign-up sheets to our upcoming gatherings and trainings. Since I am used to communicating mostly through email, I plan to email everyone (or call, if you prefer) to remind them of the snacks that they sign up to bring. I will also accept cash donations and do the shopping for you if you prefer. I would be happy to transport snacks to the walks if you need me to. Please feel free to contact me at:

Cherri did a GREAT job overseeing snack agape, so I have good examples to follow! Thanking each of you in advance for your contributions.
